"PAGING FISHERS OF MEN"

In today’s passage we read how Jesus called some Galilean fishermen to follow Him and to be His disciples. He promised them that their “catch” would be to see lives changed by His miracle-working power just as they had witnessed. Jesus is still “paging” us this morning, calling us to be “fishermen of men”. Simon Peter’s experience teaches us certain truths about what kind of spiritual fishermen Jesus is paging.

Jesus is looking for:

I. THOSE WHO OBEY HIM EVEN WHEN THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND. (v 1 – 5)

A. We must do what Jesus commands, even if it looks impossible.

II. THOSE WHO WORSHIP HIM WHEN THEY REALIZE WHO HE IS. (v 6 – 10)

A. Peter realized Jesus was a teacher (v. 5)

B. Peter realized Jesus was the Lord God (v. 8)

III. THOSE WHO FOLLOW HIM WHEN HE CALLS (v 11)

A. Simon Peter and the others “forsook all” to follow Jesus.

B. Their “fishing hole” would eventually become the whole world.

C. Nothing thrills our souls like Jesus.
