Sermon Outline for August 9, 2020
Hebrews 13: 7 – 8, 15 – 21
“IT’S ME, O LORD!”
INTRODUCTION: The author of Hebrews concluded his letter encouraging the readers to pray for their leaders in the Lord. Pastors and all Christian leaders stand in special need of prayer. The great old Negro spiritual perfectly sums up the sentiment: “It’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer!” Let’s examine four truths:
I. THE GOSPEL IS FLAWLESS EVEN THOUGH IT IS MINISTERED BY FLAWED VESSELS.
A. That fact doesn’t make the flaws right.
B. The minister’s flaws don’t flaw the message that is ministered. (I Thessalonians 5: 12 – 13)
II. YOUR PASTOR IS CLEAN.
A. The writer of Hebrews spoke of a “clean (good) conscience.” (v. 18)
B. The Bible and the person of Jesus are the safeguards, the standards of measurement to use.
(I Corinthians 11: 1)
III. FAILURE TO OBEY AND FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF A PASTOR WHO IS PREACHING, TEACHING AND LIVING THE TRUTH IS FAILURE TO OBEY GOD.
A. Christian leaders need our prayers.
B. Their families surely need our prayers!
IV. JESUS SAID THAT NOTHING WOULD EVER HALT THE ONGOING TRIUMPH OF HIS KINGDOM.
A. Matthew 16: 18 “I will build My church.”
B. Jesus wants so much to build His church through us.
C. However, He can, and will, build it without us, or around us!
