Sermon Outline for January 3, 2021
JOHN 1: 1 - 14
“GOD’S PLAN FOR EMPOWERMENT”
INTRODUCTION: One of the hot words in society today is empowerment. Companies are empowering their workers! NOW – the National Organization for Women – wants to empower women. The NAACP wants to empower African Americans. Parents want to empower their children to be able to compete in today’s world. In business terms, empowerment usually means giving workers the freedom to choose how they go about their work, giving them the tools as well as the responsibility and then getting out of their way. Did you know that empowerment is what the Gospel is all about? This is God’s will for our lives. He seeks men and women who are empowered as His own children to live the kingdom life in the very midst of sinful humanity.
I. WE MUST FIRST RECEIVE.
A. For some folks, this is the really difficult step.
B. We must first acknowledge that there is nothing we can do on our own
that will empower us as God’s children.
C. Our text does not read “to all who achieved Him.”
D. Our text does read “to all who received Him.”
II. WE MUST THEN BELIEVE.
A. Belief is a powerful force in our lives.
B. What we believe effects our lives more than any other single factor.
C. A change in belief will change our actions and feelings.
